Roof flashing & flashing repairs

Flashing keeps water out of your house where roof surfaces meet. When it wears out or works loose, it has to be repaired.

What flashing does

Roof flashing is usually sheet metal. It directs water away from the joints in a roof, and that keeps water from getting in and causing costly damage. It matters most where two roof surfaces meet and where the run-off is heavy.

Flashing also protects the other places where water collects: around chimneys, skylights and roof vents.

When it fails

Over time flashing can deteriorate or work loose. Then you need a roofer to inspect your flat roof or patio roof, find where the leak starts, and check whether the flashing was installed correctly in the first place.

It can look good, too

Flashing covers parts of your roof, so it adds to how your home looks. It comes in many shapes, sizes and colors, and whatever the style of your house there is flashing to match it.

Flashing materials

  • Zinc
  • Aluminum
  • Pre-painted steel

All of them are durable, keep water out, and help the whole roof last longer.

Is your flashing still holding back the water?

Flashing around a chimney

The flashing at the base of a chimney makes the seal between the chimney and the roof, and it is what keeps leaks out there. Since we do both roofs and chimneys, we look at both sides of it.
