Flue & chimney liner repairs
A chimney lets you enjoy a fire safely and carries the dangerous gases from your furnace out of the house. Over time most chimneys deteriorate, and a worn one is a risk to use.
What the flue and the liner are
The flue is the vertical passage that runs from the firebox, where the fire burns, to the top of the chimney. It is how the smoke gets out.
Every flue has to be lined, so the liner is often simply called the flue.
Every wood-burning or gas fireplace has a flue. Gel and faux fireplaces have no chimney and no flue. Flues were traditionally built from fireclay flue tile. More recently, stainless steel flues are used together with the clay tiles.
Relining a chimney
Relining is an effective and economical way to repair a damaged chimney. A new flue and liner are installed inside the existing chimney, in place of the old, damaged liner.
Many homeowners choose to have their chimneys relined. Others have to, because the maintenance was put off. Either way, a new flue and liner make the chimney safer and make it perform better.
